Following last year's successful performance of "Songbirds of Civil Rights", this educational concert at John Jay College will honor many great women such as: Gertrude Jeannette, Lorraine Hansberry, Ruby Dee, Carmen De Lavallade, Katherine Dunham, Toni Morrison, Barbara Ann Teer, Alice Walker, Marjorie Moon, Dr. Josephine English, Micki Grant, and Josephine Premis.
Among the performers are Jazz Roots Dance, JJAY’s M.C. Ms. Yvonne Purdie, Tony winner Micki Grant, NEA’s Jazz Master 2012 Jimmy Owens, jazz-pianist-Composer Bertha Hope, producer-director-actress Alice Spivak, opera-singer-actress Hermine Bartee, playwright Sabura Rashid, producer-director Dr. Woodie King Jr., performer-storyteller Ashekia Hall, actor Brian Hurley and Columbia Records-MGM Recording Artist/TV Performer Angeline Butler.
